Coney Island Wonder Wheel Joins Historic Business Registry!

Coney Island’s iconic Wonder Wheel has been officially added to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry. This recognition highlights the 104-year-old Ferris wheel’s significant role in New York’s cultural heritage.

State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, who nominated the Brooklyn attraction, emphasized its iconic status, stating, “Millions of visitors from around the world have come to Coney Island specifically to ride this Ferris wheel because it is truly iconic.”

The registry, established in 2020, honors businesses that have operated for at least 50 years and have made a lasting impact on their communities. The Wonder Wheel is now one of six Brooklyn businesses featured on the registry. Legislation to provide financial benefits, such as relief from property taxes, to support these historic businesses is being considered.
