The Detroit Lions escaped with a victory at Ford Field, as they defeated the New York Jets, 31-24, to improve to 2-1.
It was a game where Jahmyr Gibbs had three total touchdowns on a combined 164 scrimmage yards, and where the Lions blew a two-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter as the Ford Field crowd looked at another defensive collapse. That was until a sack and fumble recovery by the Lions sealed the game.
Jared Goff finished 25-for-32 passing for 269 yards and two touchdowns and has yet to throw an interception in three games. However, the Lions’ leading receiver was Isaac TeSlaa with 66 yards on three catches, including a big 49-yard completion that led to Gibbs’ winning touchdown with 2:25 left in the fourth quarter.
The Lions had their third straight game scoring 30 points, and held their opponent to under 30 points for the first time this season. However, Jets quarterback Geno Smith still had 321 passing yards and three touchdowns against Detroit’s defense, which allowed 14 points in the fourth quarter and 335 total yards.
